Matthew McNees earned his PhD in English at University of North Carolina – Greensboro.
He joined Louisburg College for the Spring 2025 semester and currently holds an Assistant Professor position wherein he teaches primarily American Literature.
He conducted his graduate work at UNC-Greensboro (MA 2006, PhD 2011) where he specialized in American Mid-century poetry and Anglo-European Modernism as well as poetic connections in canonical literature across time. In 2015, he published a book on culture, philosophy and literature with Rowman & Littlefield titled Sport Philosophy Now. His work has been published in Etudes Lawrenciennes, The George Herbert Review, and other scholarly journals. He is currently at work on several American and English-writing authors and their spirituality and faith and has most recently presented on “The Problem of Jack Kerouac’s Faith” at the annual College English Association Conference. At Louisburg, he sponsors the Louisburg Creative Writing Journal and teaches a special topics course on Shakespeare.
