Louisburg College invites and encourages students to bring personal computers to campus to enhance their learning experience. This document contains information on how to gain internet access through the Louisburg College campus network, protect your computer against viruses, and obtain staff members’ assistance when necessary.
The college equips all campus dormitory rooms with a wired category five-Ethernet connection port. Any desktop or laptop computer with Windows Vista, seven or eight operating systems, and current Macintosh systems can access internet access through this connection port. A category five-Ethernet cable is required, and students must provide it. These are available at the campus bookstore and the Louisburg Wal-Mart. A wired Ethernet connection offers the fastest and most reliable internet connection.
Wireless internet access is available throughout the campus. The name of the Louisburg College wireless network is LC-WIFI or lc- for example, lc-Franklin2nd.
To protect your computer and the Louisburg College campus network from viruses, the college requires all computers to have anti-virus software installed and up-to-date anti-virus definitions. If your computer has anti-virus software installed, such as Norton, McAfee, or AVG with an active account, that will suffice. For those who do not have current anti-virus software installed, the college provides AVG anti-virus at no cost to students, faculty, and staff. To have anti-virus software installed, contact the IT department using the contact information below.
If a student should need assistance with any technology-related issue, there are two options to obtain help:
- Contact a Residence Life Staff member so that they can email the Information Technology helpdesk at firstname.lastname@example.org Please provide detailed information about the nature of the request.
- Students can also stop by an IT office in either or Davis 210 or Main 101.
- Office hours are Monday and Wednesday from 3:00-5:00 pm Thursday 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
