Markings of Wildness
Oct. 16, 2019 - Nov. 26, 2019
Opening Reception: Oct. 16 @ 7:00 pm
Originally from Wilmington NC, Anne Willson’s educational background includes two B.A.’s in Communications and Museum Studies, a minor in Art History, an M.A. in Liberal Arts and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management. Willson starting in the field as a potter, but moved into arts administration and worked in the nonprofit sector for over twenty-seven years, leading visual arts organizations in North Carolina and Tennessee while maintaining a side art practice. In this side practice, she first explored sculptural weaving and the random weave process through a MassArts workshop in Bennington VT in 2009. In 2016, Wilson returned to North Carolina where she shifted her work with nonprofits and returned to the studio to further explore the random weave process.
“With a focus on communication and information that exists beyond literal translation, my art is rooted in the natural world. It functions as a marking of wildness and inherent knowledge, both in the environment and in our human selves.”
