The American Library Association (ALA) recently announced 240 libraries will receive funds through the Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities Grant.

We are pleased to announce that the Louisburg College Cecil W. Robbins Library is a recipient, and will receive $10,000 towards community engagement training for students, faculty, and staff.

Project Plan

We aim to feature a seminar for library staff and faculty regarding improving outcomes for students with learning disabilities and giving them greater accessibility in the library. There will be disability inclusion training for library staff and college faculty. Multicultural library books, both print and eBooks will be added to the collection to better reflect the current ethnic makeup of the student body. Books selected with have protagonists with learning disabilities, and or be ethnically diverse. 

In addition, the Library has secured North Carolinian author, Clyde Edgerton for a performance, likely, to be held in Spring 2024.

"While the focus of the grant is much more than an author visit, Edgerton will be the “jewel in the crown” for the Library's culminating activity in the 2024 Spring Semester, with an evening performance that we hope to share with the community," stated Louisburg College Librarian Kathleen Richardson, M.Ed.
