Dr. Elwell Joins Louisburg as Vice President of Academic Life
Louisburg College is pleased to announce that Dr. Jeff Elwell has been named the Vice President of Academic Life and Dean of Faculty.
Dr. Elwell holds a Ph.D. in Speech Communication/Theater from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, a M.S. in Communication/Theatre from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, and a B.A. in English from California State University-Bakersfield. Elwell most recently served as Interim Associate Provost at the University of Baltimore and previously served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of the Ozarks, both through a placement by The Registry.
Prior to that, he was President and Chancellor at Eastern New Mexico University; Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at UT Chattanooga; Provost at Auburn University Montgomery, Founding Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication at East Carolina University and a Chair at the University of Nebraska and Marshall University. He was director of Theatre at Mississippi State University where he was tenured and fully promoted.
Elwell is the author of 36 plays and has had more than 100 productions, six of which have been published. He has had 23 productions in New York and seven of his plays have received international productions. He is also a nationally certified track and field official and enjoys officiating NCAA meets around the country.
He has been married to Edwina Gower for almost 40 years and they have one son, Preston, 27, who works in college athletics in Chattanooga, TN, as well as a beautiful 13-year-old Finnish Spitz, Mindy. They are members of Christ the King Church (a United Methodist and African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church), in Clayton, NC.
Dr. Elwell’s decades long career in academic life and his student centered, collaborative style will enhance the student academic experience.
"I'm excited by the opportunity to help students achieve their dreams and their goals," Dr. Elwell says. "I'm hoping to be able to increase student success during my time at Louisburg College."
